SS 2012 MCS Men’s Collection

The SS 2012 MCS collection explores two main spheres of the Americana aesthetic: one reflecting the brand’s feel for wide open spaces and the pioneer spirit; the other referencing manual workers, a mercantile mood and major urban development. It’s the meeting of two apparently different worlds in a lifestyle where the can-do culture of building, discovery and the pursuit of liberty beyond immediate boundaries comes beautifully alive. All in a collection that highlights functionality, innovative experimentation (re details and treatments), the search for a pure, basic, ergo contemporary vision.

Cottons in natural hues with army green, rose pink and sky blue accents. Then to capture the Heritage-Authentic essence of traditional MCS items all fabrics have a lived-in look thanks to washing and/or distressing. The classic John Wayne jacket plays with a washed cotton/nylon blend to give this old favorite a wonderfully modern appeal. Urban safari jackets feature pigment washes and treatments for a super-used effect, while the wide selection of big-check shirts (some quite colorful) come in different materials – from down-home denim to a softly puckered semi-stretch cotton muslin.

Denim fabrics in fresh color mixes, from ultra brights to totally washed-out shades. They add definition to two fundamental types of fit: perfectly young and slim, otherwise loose or regular for the more practical clothing. Leather detailing heightens the impact of edgier styles; other items make the most of capacious all-purpose pockets. Sweaters (also in pure linen) accentuate construction through under stitched seams.

Very much of an industrial urban work inspiration for the Duty-Mercantile part of the collection. Here the palette goes from shades of gray to dark blue, with sophisticated beige, indigo and white tones in between. All of the items present heavy-duty details, reinforcements, triple-seam pockets, patches, extraspecial fabrics (as in the dark blue laminated 100% linen doubledyed for an iridescent glint). Washed yarn-dyed linen blend blazers offset the urban style with functional workwear detailing. The windbreaker comes in faux-puckered nylon; tech items have fun with a faux-waxed cotton/nylon, sporty little jackets with purposely faded materials.

Shades of denim blue or blue black inflect clothes complete with a variety of utility details. Print sweaters have a distinct retro flair.

On a smooth journey somewhere between town & country, past & present, MCS interprets the brand’s core values in American inspired clothes. Mixing and merging a feel for wide open spaces with urban details, up-to-date shapes, innovative materials.
