I’m a rancher, and I raise a specialty breed of cattle, used in rodeo events and also beef production. Long days, hard work, little pay, but lots of rewards.

In all my years being in involved in ranching I’ve kept one special item that has stayed with me over the years, and it’s this belt buckle. It saved my life.

Once, when I was working these bulls in their corral, this bull came after me, and I wasn’t able to get out of the way fast enough. He charged right at me, and his horn came and glanced off my buckle and ripped my belt off. That’s the first thing I remember. I can remember that. Then he put his head down, and he ripped off my pants with his horn. And after that, I don’t remember. I got gored three times through my stomach. And that’s pretty much what happened.
